How we restore it

How bead blasting pool tile works

A fine media is sprayed at low pressure against the tile. It knocks the calcium off without grinding the tile, and every job starts with a test spot.

Glass and iridescent tile get a mineral-based media that is pH-neutral. Porcelain, ceramic and natural stone get silica bead. The water is lowered about 6 to 12 inches below the tile line; the pool is not drained. We vacuum the media out with our own pumps, so nothing goes through your equipment.

Bead blasting pool tile cost

Price depends on the length of the tile line, how heavy the buildup is, the tile type and any raised walls or water features. See pool tile cleaning cost.

Glass tile and glass bead cleaning

Glass tile needs a gentler media. Read calcium removal from glass pool tile and bead blasting vs. acid wash.

Questions

Good to know

What is bead blasting pool tile?

A fine media is sprayed at low pressure against the tile to knock calcium and scale off without grinding the tile. It is also called media blasting.

What media do you use?

It depends on the tile. Glass tile gets a mineral-based media that is pH-neutral; porcelain, ceramic and natural stone get silica bead. We test a spot first.

Is this the same as glass bead pool tile cleaning?

Glass bead cleaning is a common name for this kind of blasting. On glass tile we use a mineral-based, pH-neutral media chosen for glass, and we match the media to every other tile type too.

Do you drain the pool?

No. The water is lowered about 6 to 12 inches below the tile line, and we vacuum the media out with our own pumps.

How long does it take?

Usually 2–4 hours, finished in one day. Heavy buildup can take 5–6 hours.

How much does bead blasting pool tile cost?

It depends on the length of the tile line, how heavy the buildup is, the tile type and any raised walls or water features. Quotes are free from your photos.
